Adding an OKI printer to a Mac

Recently taken delivery of a cheap OKI laser printer (a B2200). Having installed the latest drivers form the site the printer would no 'add' as normal (which is System Prefs/Print & Fax?Click the + button/Choose default printer) - the driver would not appear here. So I went to 'More printers' in the same dialog. OKI USB was available here in the dropdown menu (the printer should be connected by USB cable) - you need to select it in the dropdown, then in the list that appears, and click 'Add'. A bit longwinded, but the printer now functions perfectly (and is really good value for money, to buy and to run). Shame about the drivers...

Blogger comments to Twitter

Anyone know how to get comments from a blog made by the blog owner to
appear in Twitter - or do you have to create a new post each time?

TweetDeck upgrade launches WaveBurner fix

Tweetdeck update launches WaveBurner - the same problem that affects
updates to BBC iPlayer Desktop for mac (that is - WaveBurner launches
cancelling the update, if you have the Logic Studio bundle installed)
also affects users of TweetDeck. The fix is also the same -
temporarily put WaveBurner in the trash, run the update, then bring
Waveburner back to the Apps folder - must find a better way...

PS - blogged as a new post so it gets fed to twitter

isight camera disabled

Just noticed that if user leaves an app that uses the isight open,
remains logged in but someone else logs in using fast user switching,
the camera is not available to the new user until the old user has
logged back in and quit the app - now how lame is that? Surely there
is a fix...

WaveBurner launches when updating BBC iPlayer Desktop - fix

Every time I launch BBC iPlayer Desktop (an Adobe Air application), it
asks to be updated (it is in Beta so I should expect this, no?)
However, WaveBurner (part of the Logic Studio bundle) launches by
itself and prevents BBC iPlayer Desktop from opening. I could choose
not to update of course but there is a quick and dirty fix for this.
Move the WaveBurner app to the trash, then launch BBC iPlayer Desktop,
update etc, then move WaveBurner back out of the trash. Tada! Back
sometime later with a more elegant fix (don't hold your breath...)

Setting up an Apple Airport Express to pass wireless internet to a wired XBox

My son set me a challenge recently. ‘Dad, we have the internet in our house, so can I have XBox live?’ The ‘difficulty is that the internet is supplied wirelessly via a cable modem to an Airport Express, which lives in another room to the XBox setup. And the XBox is not wireless. I had a spare Airport Express so have set this up as a WDS ‘remote’, which picks up and passes on the wireless network, via a cable, to the XBox. WDS stands for Wireless Distribution System. To see a walk-through click here. What I didn’t tell my son was that the XBox live subscription runs out after a month unless he pays...

Note - you can also use this method to connect a computer that has no wireless access to the internet, by connecting via ethernet cable to a ‘remote’ base station
